All panels for the guards van on side B are now back in place after
restoration or in some cases, replaced. All frames and knee irons
(metal that secure upright frames to floor) have been removed,
repaired and replaced. |

Not content with completing the guards area, the team (i.e.
Marcus and Roy) have cracked on with the frames/panels around the
passenger doors. This first two doors are complete. This
work is essential before the compartment partitions can be
reinstated. |
| With the passenger door frames on compartments 4 and 3
repaired it was time to tackle the compartment partitions. These
had been completely removed while in service, so we had a blank
canvas! Each partition is made up of 14 separate T&G boards which fit
into a channel in the floor and are fitted to the roof shape. The door
board is shaped to the side wall. Fun. The very first board goes
in after the roof is jacked up to the correct dimensions. |

|
 |
After making a template from cardboard for the roof and side
profiles, the boards are laid out on the floor and then cut to
profile using the template. |
|
Once cut and test fitted the question is is it
square? |
Of course it is! |
|
 |
Having made one partition, we used it as a template for partition 5
which would remain in situ. This is the last picture that could be
taken from the guards van, through to the End A where the toilet
will go! |
|
.... and the finished article for partition 5. Its not coming
out again so it won't be as easy to move form the guards area to the
compartment area! |
