While progress continues on side B, side A hasn't been neglected
with some repatriated goods doors and guards doors rehung. This is really just
to stop the draughts but it does have a certain completing effect.
Back in May 2005 I showed a picture of a side A door pillar.
Well half of it to be exact. These two pictures show the
replacement in place (with restored teak external panels in place
and internal T&G panels also. (You can't see the glue blocks, but
believe me they are there. The new door pillar was
professionally made. As with most things on the coach, it is
shaped in 3 different plains and is made of hardwood. Too
expensive to get wrong ourselves.
The B end is now complete (all
bar the beading) and the original door has now been rehung. The
door has been renovated and sports at least 5 coats of varnish with
many more to come. Looks very effective.
Just to prove that progress (and quite significant) has been made on
side B, here is the proof. The guards van framework and
panelling has been repaired, replaced and glue blocked in place.
No mean feat as that is 10 panels and 9 frames. Roy, the free
labour (he's doing it for love), looks on at his handiwork.
